Making the case for New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson as the future of the NBA.
Earlier this week, the Zion Williamson vs. Luka Doncic debate took off thanks in large part to a recent survey that went viral. ESPN released a survey that asked league executives which player they’d rather start a franchise with. Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, most would take Doncic over Zion to start their franchise.
While this may seem surprising to some on the surface, it really shouldn’t be. For one, we have a much greater sample size from Doncic in the NBA than we do of Zion. Williamson only played 19 games during his rookie season and Doncic is coming off a season in which he averaged nearly 30 points per game with nine points and nine assists.
With all due respect to Zion and his natural ability and superstar potential, Doncic is already proving he is a superstar in just his second season in the league. Zion might have generational potential but at this point isn’t much more than just that – potential.
Nevertheless, Zion still very much has a bright future. In light of all the love Doncic has been receiving, let’s take a look at why Zion Williamson is destined to be an all-time great too.
