12. Detroit Pistons – Luke Kennard
Would you look at that, the Detroit Pistons get to keep Luke Kennard in the redraft. It’s hard to say they got it right the first time around when Donovan Mitchell and Bam Adebayo were the next two picks after this one, but either way they get their guy.
Also, per his Basketball-Reference page, he will be exclusively referred to as Cool Hand Luke going forward.
Cool Hand Luke is mediocre on defense, but he’ll make a lot of money in the NBA with his ability to shoot the ball. He’s a career 40 percent shooter from three and is deadly spotting up and in the pull-up game, showing a quick and accurate trigger all over the floor.
His 2020 campaign was cut short, but CHL showed a much-improved ability as a playmaker and scorer. He averaged four assists per game after never averaging two in either of his first two seasons in the league and bumped his scoring average up from 10 to 16 points per game. If he can continue that development and stay off the injury report, his offensive ceiling will be higher than anyone ever thought.
