6. Denver Nuggets

Best finish: Conference finals (three times)

Iconic player(s): Dikembe Mutombo, Alex English, Carmelo Anthony

Championship outlook: Excellent

The Denver Nuggets had their bright spots as a franchise and came within the doorstep of an NBA Finals appearance three times over their history, but they might not be as close to winning a championship as they are at the moment. The Nuggets have a great core in place and were one game away from the conference finals a year ago.

As the age of super teams dies, the Nuggets could be the “next Raptors” – a team that no one really considered a title contender winning the title. They have a dangerous duo in Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray, and a number of intriguing young supporting pieces on their roster.

The sky is the limit for the Nuggets and they will have as good as a chance as any other contender in the West to win a championship over the next three seasons.
