NBA Mock Draft 3.0: New York Knicks earn top pick; James Wiseman drops
10. Phoenix Suns – Cole Anthony, G, North Carolina
The Phoenix Suns will likely be in the market for a long-term running mate for Devin Booker and there might not be a better opportunity to find one than in the 2020 NBA Draft. With Haliburton and Hampton coming off the board just before the Suns go on the clock, they’ll settle for taking a bit risk on Cole Anthony.
Even though you can make the argument that he has top 5 talent, Anthony left much to be desired after his freshman season at North Carolina. Despite the stellar numbers during his freshman season, Anthony must show improvement in his shot selection and efficiency. In the climate of today’s NBA, that’s essential.
In fairness, playing next to a talent like Booker will certainly make life a bit easier for Anthony. And the fact that he’s already proven to be a playmaker helps. I still have concerns with his overall offensive game at the next level and his defensive abilities.
Anthony was all over the map during his freshman season at North Carolina and will likely need extremely impressive pre-draft workouts to build back up his draft stock. If not, he could fall out of the top 10.
