13. New Orleans Pelicans – Tyrese Maxey, G, Kentucky
There’s at least a chance that the New Orleans Pelicans will move on from Jrue Holiday and/or JJ Redick either during the offseason or at some point during the 2020-21 NBA season. In that event, it would be prudent for the Pelicans to prepare for such a time while also continuing to build around Zion Williamson and (probably) Brandon Ingram.
Tyrese Maxey would be an interesting selection and option for the Pelicans at No. 13. Maxey is somewhat of a combo guard and is a naturally gifted offensive player. The hope is that his ability will make a seamless transition to the NBA level.
Maxey didn’t shy away from the big moments during his freshman season at Kentucky and averaged 14 points on 43 percent shooting from the field. Even if the Pelicans elect to keep Holiday and Redick on their roster, Maxey will get two great mentors to learn from during his rookie season.
