17. Boston Celtics (via Memphis) – Theo Maledon, G, ASVEL
The Boston Celtics don’t have any clear holes on their roster and are on the verge of becoming a contender in the Eastern Conference. So there’s a good chance that whoever they pick at 17 won’t be asked to contribute for a few years. That’s why picking a talent like Theo Maledon could make some sense.
Even though Maledon is talented, he’s a prospect that will take time to develop. Maledon didn’t post ground-breaking numbers last season in the EuroLeague but he’s a prospect that could develop into a really good player down the line.
Maledon has good size for a guard and would be able to learn behind Kemba Walker, Jaylen Brown, and Marcus Smart for a couple of seasons if he’s not ready to contribute right away. Maledon has potential but needs a few years to develop.
