Looking back at the 2019-20 NBA season and issuing grades to each of the first-year coaches

With every passing day, there’s a greater and greater chance that the 2019-20 NBA season won’t be resumed. As it currently stands, more than two months in the hiatus, there’s a strong possibility that the regular season won’t be concluded.

If the season is resumed, the prevailing thought is that there will be some sort of playoff play-in and then the postseason will take place. That means for many teams, and a few on this list, they’ve likely played their final games of the season.

With that in mind, we decided it was the perfect time to look back at first-year coaches and grade the job that they’ve done during the 2019-20 season.

Jacque Vaughn, Brooklyn Nets

I couldn’t give Jacque Vaughn his own section because, quite frankly, it wouldn’t be fair. He was barely about to take over when the NBA entered the hiatus. Technically speaking, Vaughn is 2-0 as his tenure as interim head coach for the Brooklyn Nets. Unfortunately, especially if the season isn’t resumed at some point over the summer, there’s a very real chance that he won’t return as the team’s head coach next season.

The Nets will likely turn to a big name to fill their void this offseason.
