NBA Rumors: A decision on 2019-20 season expected in 2-4 weeks
NBA Rumors: According to a report, the hope is that a decision on whether to resume the 2019-20 season will come in 2-4 weeks.
Tuesday night, the NBA held a Board of Governors call in which they discussed a myriad of topics including the feasibility of a resumption of the 2019-20 season. According to reports, standardized testing and potential playing grounds were among the topics covered.
Two of the most interesting tidbits that emerged revolved around the potential thinking of Adam Silver and the league’s decision-makers. First, Silver and the league has to decide if a positive test means shutting down the season again.
As Adrian Wojnarowski notes, if that’s the thinking heading into the resumption of the season, then perhaps it’s probably best to not even move forward with resuming. Then come the arguments for/against what a positive test should mean for the league. What protocols would be in place? What would happen next? There are many levels to this certainly, and I’m not sure there’s one “solid answer.”
Additionally, another interesting note to emerge from the Board of the Governors call was that Silver is aiming for a decision on whether to resume the 2019-20 season within the next 2-4 weeks.
If this is indeed so, it would mean that, at the very latest, we will get a finite answer on the 2019-20 season by mid-June. That would leave the league with at least a few weeks to get their protocols in place and potentially prepare for the resumption of the season, assuming they move forward and target a July (mid or late) restart to the season.
Around the rest of the sports world, many soccer leagues have already identified restart dates and both the MLB and MLS are mapping out starts to their seasons. The PGA Tour and NASCAR are expected to resume soon too.
There’s no question that Adam Silver and the NBA will be watching the rest of their sports world before mapping out what they ultimately decide. Nevertheless, we’re getting closer and closer to an answer on the 2019-20 NBA season.
