According to a recent report, LaMelo Ball’s camp will reportedly try and push him towards landing with the New York Knicks in the 2020 NBA Draft.

As it currently stands, the New York Knicks are projected to pick sixth overall in the 2020 NBA Draft. It should be noted, though, depending on what the NBA decides to do with the remainder of the 2019-20 season (if it resumes or gets canceled), their current draft position could change.

Keeping that in mind, it will be difficult for the Knicks to be able to land a true game-changer at six. Historically, after the first five picks, there’s a normal drop in overall talent in the draft class.

The 2020 draft class is projected to be no different. There are roughly three or four elite prospects and then there’s a second tier of prospects that “could” be stars or solid rotation players. But nothing is a given, honestly.

Many believe the 2020 draft class to be weak. In fairness, there’s really no knowing for certain until we see them play in the NBA. And the cancelation of collegiate postseason tournaments didn’t help any, either.

Interestingly enough, one of the most polarizing prospects that many projects to have arguably the highest ceiling in this draft class is LaMelo Ball. His name should ring familiar. He’s the youngest Ball brother and sibling of Lonzo Ball who currently plays for the New Orleans Pelicans.

One whisper around the league is that LaVar Ball, Lonzo and LaMelo’s father, is angling his son to land in New York in the 2020 NBA Draft. Though, that could prove difficult if the Knicks indeed pick at No. 6 and don’t move up in the NBA Draft Lottery.

"[via New York Post]“Some league sources believe the Ball camp will try to steer the 18-year-old point guard to the Knicks.”"

In fact, that might actually be the worst-kept secret in the league. So much so that LaVar practically announced it to the world during an appearance on FS1.

LaVar expects his son to be the top draft pick but also noted during his appearance on FS1 that the best fit for him is in New York. LaVar might’ve pulled off delivering Lonzo to the Lakers a few years ago, but getting LaMelo to the Knicks will be a bit more difficult.

Short of the Knicks winning the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery or trading up (and they actually have assets to do so), it’d be difficult for it to happen quite frankly.

On the surface, LaMelo Ball being drafted to the New York Knicks would be interesting. In fact, it’s something many would tune in to see. Though, there are plenty of steps that have to happen for it to actually come to fruition. Make no mistake, if it’s really what LaMelo and LaVar Ball want, their camp is going to work hard to get it done.
