In our NBA Monday Social, Russell Westbrook celebrates his son’s third birthday and Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie’s attempt to let fans choose where he plays.
In September of 2019, Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie attempted to convert his NBA contract in an investment vehicle. If his plans would have been approved, Dinwiddie would have pioneered a new way for athletes to further maximize their financial earnings.
However, by January of this year, the NBA had officially slammed the door on Dinwiddie’s ambitions. The idea was unique, and players will likely fight to make it legal when it is time to renegotiate the CBA, whenever that may be. As Kevin Arnovitz stated back in October on ESPN.com this type of investment could potentially become “Fantasy sports on steroids.”
Less than five months after his initial idea was vetoed, Dinwiddie is back at it again with another first of its kind contract proposal, only this time his contract would be powered by you, the fans! How would this work exactly? It’s quite simple; Dinwiddie launched a crowdfunding campaign on the website GoFundMe.com on May 15, 2020, set a target of roughly $24 million USD, and informed fans if they raised the amount needed, then he would sign with a team they select.
Does this sound too good to be true? That’s because it probably is, as of 11:45 AM CT the Go Fund Me campaign had been deactivated. At this time it is unclear who or why the campaign was terminated. It raised $1,150 over the course of its four days live.
A little more info from the man himself
Just to clear the air, this has nothing to do with my security token. That is a completely separate concept and a business venture designed for profit. (Which is on going, talk to Tritaurian Capital 😉)

This is actually about a free market system and crowdsourcing a FA decision. https://t.co/7WVwUeuTMw
Planning Ahead
Spencer Dinwiddie is willing to sign a one-year deal with an NBA team that fans can choose if they raise roughly $24,632,630 in Bitcoin on a GoFundMe

Yes.
Last Dance was great, but I’d pump the brakes on calling it the best sports doc ever and immediately direct you to watch Hoop Dreams.

Happy birthday, Noah

Young Noah celebrated in style (of course) with a Toy Story themed party and cake. The birthday boy was dressed as Buzz Lightyear and Russell Westbrook was sporting a Woody costume complete with Cowboy boots and all.
Noah received birthday messages from many of Russ’ former teammates and his fellow NBA peers; including LeBron James, Kendrick Perkins, and Chris Paul who all referred to Noah as a nephew.
To anyone who is celebrating a birthday this week, Happy Birthday!
