4 players the Golden State Warriors could trade their 2020 draft pick for
For many teams, the 2019-20 NBA season will be remembered as the one negatively impacted by a global pandemic. Although, the 2019-20 NBA season was already viewed as a loss for the Golden State Warriors.
Before the season even started, Klay Thompson was projected to miss much, if not all, the season. Then, Stephen Curry suffered a wrist injury four games into the season. The injury cost Curry more than four months of the season. He had finally made his return to the team’s lineup before the NBA hit the pause button of the season.
At the NBA Trade Deadline, the Warriors also traded D’Angelo Russell (who the team acquired in the Kevin Durant sign-and-trade) to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Andrew Wiggins.
All of that led to the Warriors holding the NBA’s worst record at the hiatus. At 15-50, even if the NBA regular season is resumed in some form or fashion, the Warriors will likely finish with the worst record in the league. That means they’ll have a 14 percent chance at the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. At the very least, they should have a top 5 pick.
However, for a team like the Warriors, a projected top 5 (at least) pick might not hold as much value to other rebuilding teams. That could open the door for the Warriors to trade the pick leading up to the draft. It’s also an idea that Bob Myers, Warriors general manager, says the team will consider.
Now that we know the option is on the table, let’s explore four potential trade packages (centered around the team’s 2020 first-round draft pick) that would make sense for the Golden State Warriors.
