Golden State Warriors trade target: John Collins

Warriors get: John Collins

Hawks get: Jordan Poole, Dragan Bender, 2020 first-round pick

If the Golden State Warriors wanted to go the alternative route, and not target a veteran star, John Collins could emerge as an interesting trade target. Collins finds himself in an interesting spot with the Atlanta Hawks. He will be a restricted free agent after the 2020-21 season (if he doesn’t sign an extension this summer).

What makes it all the more complicated is the fact that the Hawks just traded for Clint Capela at the 2020 NBA Trade Deadline. With nearly $60 million tied up in Capela over the next three years, it could make it difficult for the Hawks to pay every rising star on their roster – including Collins.

If the Hawks aren’t willing to write Collins a max extension, which he’ll likely be in line for as he continues to impress with his play, they could look to move the talented big before it’s time to cross that bridge.

Golden State could take advantage of that. Collins is a player that could help them win right now and is just 22 years old. He’s a young enough player that could be a future building block for the team too.
