NBA’s most compelling matchup No. 5: Toronto Raptors vs. Memphis Grizzlies

In the first-round 3-14 matchup, the Toronto Raptors would square off against the Memphis Grizzlies in some sort of series. The reason why this is a compelling matchup, in my mind, is the Raptors and Grizzlies are oddly a similar team. Perhaps not in terms of talent – the Raptors are clearly further along – but in terms of how both teams are a bit overlooked.

The Raptors were easily the second-best team in the Eastern Conference after a tremendous season from Pascal Siakam, and the Grizzlies were clearly a team on the rise this season in the Western Conference behind an award-winning rookie season from Ja Morant.

Kyle Lowry vs. Morant would be an interesting matchup to watch unfold, plus Siakam against an emerging young frontcourt in Memphis would be fascinating. Plus, this would also be considered the first true playoff test for Siakam as the team’s No. 1 option.

The Raptors would almost surely win, but I have a feeling this would be one of the most interesting early matchups.
