Four teams that should target Philadelphia 76ers prospect Vasilije Micic
Vasilije Micic is a name that probably won’t ring a bell to most NBA fans, and that’s perfectly understandable considering he hasn’t played in the NBA yet. Micic, a 6-foot-6 combo guard, was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round of the 2014 NBA Draft.
Six years later, at the age of 26, Micic is now making waves overseas.
During the 2019-20 EuroLeague season, Micic averaged 15 points and six assists per game on 47 percent shooting from the field and 40 percent from 3-point range for Anadolu Efes.
Question is, why hasn’t Micic made the move to the NBA?
Micic sees himself as an NBA-ready player and likely wants guaranteed playing time or at least a shot to play in the NBA right away. Translation: He doesn’t want to make the jump to the NBA just for the sake of it. The Sixers still own the rights to Micic, and with their loaded roster, there’s no guarantee he would even break the rotation.
With back-to-back impressive seasons in the EuroLeague, it could leave the door open for another team (which has room in their rotation) to attempt to acquire Micic for a cheap price (assuming he’s still open to the idea of making the jump to the NBA). That would open the door for Micic to make the jump to the NBA.
Micic is a proficient 3-point shooter (a career 37 percent overseas), can drive to the basket at will with his size, and excels as a pick-and-roll ball-handler. There are concerns about his defensive abilities, but that should improve at the NBA level (in the right scheme).
He said he will either play in the NBA or with Anadolu Efes next season. If that’s not on the Sixers, we explore four teams that Vasilije Micic could help next season.
