Grading the Milwaukee Bucks’ 2019-20 regular season

Looking back, the 2019-20 NBA season will be remembered as one of the most unique in modern-day history. Despite a more than two-month hiatus, though, there’s growing hope that the season will resume July 31. That’s great news for many teams, including the Milwaukee Bucks.

That’s because, before the hiatus, the Bucks were the overwhelming favorites to make it out of the Eastern Conference and one of the three or four favorites to win the 2020 NBA Championship altogether.

Led by Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Bucks were primed for an NBA Finals run. They were on pace to finish with the best record in the league and were on a near-70-win pace.

How will the Milwaukee Bucks look when the league restarts?

With the NBA expecting to restart in late-July, there’s hope once again that this could in fact be the year for Giannis and the Bucks. Before the stoppage, Giannis was averaging 30 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists per game – mind-boggling stats, to say the least.

On the season, the Bucks had an 18-game winning streak, currently have a point differential of 11.2, and we also saw Khris Middleton burst out for a 51-point performance earlier in the year.

Milwaukee was truly in the midst of a historic season.

The challenge for the Bucks, however, is picking up where they left off when the season finally resumes. That will be a challenge that can’t be easy. There’s going to be a more than four-month layoff from when the last basketball game was played in March to when the action finally resumes in July.

That’s essentially an offseason. When the 2019-20 season resumes, it will be as if a new season is beginning. It won’t be as easy as “picking up where you left off.” And that will be the challenge for many teams.

On the other hand, that can be a sign of hope for teams that were struggling heading into the hiatus. It could be looked at as a new, fresh start.

Before the hiatus, the Milwaukee Bucks looked like the best team in the league – and perhaps by a good amount. During the 2019-20 regular season, Milwaukee was dominant. When the season resumes, there’s a very good chance this will be the team to beat in the Eastern Conference.
