NBA Mock Draft 4.0: Atlanta Hawks add LaMelo Ball; Knicks take a risk
4. Cleveland Cavaliers – Isaac Okoro, F, Auburn
In the event that the Cleveland Cavaliers elect to move on from Kevin Love and/or Tristan Thompson, the team is going to need some defensive stability along the frontcourt – even with Andre Drummond’s presence in the middle. With James Wiseman and Onyeka Okongwu still on the board, each of those would be quality picks.
However, I believe Isaac Okoro would be a better selection. During his freshman season at Auburn, Okoro averaged 13 points, four rebounds, and two assists on 51 percent shooting from the field. He’s also considered one of the better defensive talents in this draft class.
While there are fair questions about his ability to stretch the floor to the 3-point line on a consistent basis (he only shot 29 percent from deep on 2.5 attempts per game during his freshman season), the hope is that he can work out those issues with an NBA-level shooting coach.
Okoro would be a great fit for an already talented Cavaliers core.
