Detroit Pistons road to redemption step 3: The trade down

Detroit is bound to have a top 10 pick in this year’s draft. The problem is that this year’s draft is not filled with the surefire superstars. The bold yet smart move for whoever comes into Detroit would be to trade down maybe even to acquire more picks.

A look at teams like the Celtics, Knicks, Timberwolves, and Thunder all stand to have multiple first-round picks with reasons to trade up as well. A deal that could get the Pistons to trade down and acquire multiple first-round picks would be a good choice.

This draft while not filled with superstars is projected to have plenty of excellent role players. This would be the opportunity to continue to build the team’s image and culture for the front office. The Pistons roster could use a little bit of everything, and being able to fill more holes on the roster would be beneficial for the team long-term.

The trade down is also about asset management, if one thing is clear in the NBA it is that the more young talent you have on your roster the better. Young talent can either develop for the team or be used to make a strong trade to get a true building block.

The Pistons would be wise to trade down and acquire as much youth as they can for their roster.
