LeBron James deserves credit for his off-the-court contributions
It’s clear that what we’re watching before our eyes is a once in a generation superstar. LeBron James, not only is the best basketball player in the world right now but he’s also one of the best role models that the NBA has to offer.
LeBron is taking the lead over many other role models and activists that came before him, and along with many others that have taken a lead in their respective communities and around the nation in the past few years.
There are many players that have played big roles throughout their communities over the last few years, but recent events have placed a spotlight as of late.

At the very least, it’s admirable. Especially for a player like LeBron. When players reach a pinnacle of greatness in their respective sports, there are many avenues and opportunities that open up for them. They’re given a certain platform that not many others are given.
LeBron, and many other athletes, have taken advantage of such opportunities over the last few years. LeBron, specifically, is playing in his 17th season and is showing very few signs of slowing down.
He’s amazing to watch on the court and is almost an equally amazing person off the floor. He has done great things for the community, the kids in Akron (and across the country), and has used his platform to make a real difference and change the countless amount of lives. He’s also a devout family man.
LeBron has been nothing but class is respected, and has shown dignity. He has never really fallen prey to any scandal (with the exception of a TV show in which he decided which team he was going to sign within 2010). He has done a great job of not putting himself in such situations.
He speaks on the importance of value, such as Black Lives Matter and other social injustice fronts that have taken center stage over the last few years. He’s fought against police brutality and racism, an important stance for especially someone in his situation.
In sports, we continuously criticize these athletes. However, as far as I’m concerned, LeBron James is in a class by himself, and will always be a hero in my books.
