A deep dive into Devin Vassell, a surefire first-round pick
2020 NBA Draft prospect Devin Vassell, out of Florida State, burst onto the scene this past season. Now, he is projected to go anywhere from the mid lottery to the late first round. Upon further examination, it becomes evident that Vassell is the real deal.
"“Listen man, I’ve got one – he isn’t ranked anywhere, but I’m telling you, he’s a pro.”"
That’s what Florida State assistant coach Charlton Young told head coach Leonard Hamilton when first informing him on a then-unknown high school player by the name of Devin Vassell.
At the time, that recommendation would have been a bold one. Now, a couple of years later, it is an undeniable truth. Vassell is a pro; or at least, he will be in a select amount of months.
Since coming onto the scene as an unranked and unheralded recruit, Vassell has seen his NBA draft stock grow immensely. He’s now a lock for the first round and could even see his name called in the mid-lottery, whenever the 2020 NBA Draft does in fact come around.
Devin Vassell’s basic production:
- 12.7 points per game
- 5.1 rebounds per game
- 1.6 assists per game
The 6-foot-6, 180-pound wing’s dramatic increase in production was the major cause of that. He was the driving force behind the ACC regular-season champs, the Florida State Seminoles, on both ends of the floor. He caught eyes with his added weight and already lengthy frame; he forced those eyes to stay glued with his shooting and transition scoring ability.
Coach Young, as well as Coach Hamilton, saw the talent that Vassell possessed a long time ago; outside viewers have only recently caught onto the trend. With the hype for his game higher than it’s ever been, now might be the best time to do a deep dive on his skill set.
That’s what the following article will entail, a deep dive on everything Devin Vassell; from all of the tools that make him so great to stuff that might – conversely – limit him at the next level.
