NBA trade candidates: Chris Paul, Oklahoma City Thunder

There’s really no need to overthink this candidate to be moved. Chris Paul was nearly traded during the 2019 offseason after the Houston Rockets elected to pivot. There’s no question that the Oklahoma City Thunder will, at the very least, test the Chris Paul trade market once again.

The real issues revolve around Paul still having two years (after the 2019-20 season) on his contract. He has no plans to opt-out after the 2020-21 season, and many teams want to keep their cap sheet flexibility heading into the summer of 2021. Still, assuming the Thunder adjusts their asking price, you’d have to believe that they could potentially find a trade partner.

If nothing else, Paul has proved this season that he’s still very much at the top of his game and has plenty to offer a contender that is looking for an acquisition to get over the top. Paul might be the biggest star on the move during the 2020 NBA offseason.
