Dallas Mavericks make adjustments to roster

Heading into the NBA’s restart, the Dallas Mavericks are considered to be one of the most dangerous teams in the Western Conference. Even though they might not have the talent of either of the Los Angeles teams, you can’t count out the Mavs from making a deep playoff run in large part thanks to Luka Doncic.

Nevertheless, like most other teams heading into the bubble, there is some housekeeping for the team to do. It will reportedly involve adding depth to its backcourt with the addition of Trey Burke and losing Willie Cauley-Stein who has elected to opt-out of the restart.

Cauley-Stein was acquired from the Golden State Warriors in January and had averaged five points and five rebounds in 13 games for the Mavs before the hiatus. Burke, who last played with the Philadelphia 76ers, spent time with Dallas last season in which he averaged 10 points and three assists in 25 games played.D

"[via ESPN]Dallas Mavericks center Willie Cauley-Stein informed the team that he will opt out of the restart of the NBA season, opening up a roster spot the Mavs intend to fill by signing point guard Trey Burke, sources said."

Dallas Mavericks add Trey Burke

Burke will add depth to the backcourt and will be only the second true point guard on the roster other than Doncic. He could come in an emergency role and already is familiar with the system. It wouldn’t be a huge ask to make especially considering the quick turnaround from the mini-training camp to the eight warmup games before the playoffs.

If anything, continuity will play a major role in the NBA’s restart. If any team needs some “getting to know each other” time, the restart isn’t going to bode well for them. Teams will almost have to enter the bubble ready for playoff games.

For the Mavs, adding a player that is already familiar with the system was a no-brainer. In the even that Burke is needed, they know they can rely on him.
