How the New York Knicks can continue their build
Finally, things feel to be changing for the New York Knicks. As newly hired team president Leon Rose spoke in-depth with the media Thursday, there’s reason to hope that the Knicks are finally moving in the right direction.
One of the biggest things Rose had to say in his first true media interview was that he viewed third overall pick RJ Barrett, and 2018 draft steal Mitchell Robinson as “core pieces” going forward.
This something that has already been said to a degree about the pair, but hearing it come directly from Rose means a lot going forward.
As the Knicks begin to start looking to build around their young duo, the wise move would be to put emphasis on acquiring players that will fill Barrett and Robinson’s shortcomings so far in their career.
The two weaknesses to address would be 3-point shooting and offensive facilitation. Luckily for Knicks fans, the new front office seems to be in agreement with assessment too. As recently, it was reported that the Knicks have been on the hunt for a lead guard who can run an offense, and a floor stretching big man who can knock down a 3-point shot.
As Rose stated, the team plans to build via all three phases: the draft, free agency, and the trade market. That means a combination from each phase would be likely. With that in mind, here’s an assessment of lead guards and stretch bigs the Knicks can target in each stage.
