NBA Draft prospect Vernon Carey’s strengths

The reason why Vernon Carey Jr. might just become this year’s biggest draft mistake for a lot of teams is that they see Carey as an old school player but in reality, there are multiple ways that Carey could actually be very successful in today’s NBA due to his strengths.

Vernon Carey Jr. has some of the best physical traits of anyone in this year’s draft. He’s an imposing player standing at 6-foot-10 and 270 pounds with a 7-foot wingspan. That size and figure make him a physical big man who can muscle his way to the basket for points, be an aggressive rebounder on both ends, and he has that sneaky quickness a lot of elite big men today have.

What a lot of people don’t see with Carey is a shooting stroke, but he made eight 3’s this season on a small sample (21 attempts) for a 38 percent clip, and his shot is smooth with great mechanics to work with. Carey has also begun to show promise as a passer too which would make him a complete player.
