What’s next in the rebuild for the Minnesota Timberwolves

For all the woes that the Minnesota Timberwolves has had in their franchise history, from failing to win a championship with Kevin Garnett and later with Kevin Love to the chaos that ensued in the short-lived Thom Thibodeau-Jimmy Butler era, it appears that the franchise finally has direction.

After trading for D’Angelo Russell, the Wolves now have a stable big two (along with Karl-Anthony Towns).

Many have questioned if a team centered around two players who seem to only care for the offensive aspect of the game can actually win a title. The answer will be determined on whether or not Towns and Russell can become more complete players as they enter their prime.

We still won’t know if that’s possible for another season at least so there’s no point in debating that right now. The real aspect of this Timberwolves incarnation that needs questioning is how will Minnesota handle building around its duo so that regardless of their development they can be successful.

Minnesota has already begun to give some indication of they want to build for the future with the secondary acquisitions of players like Malik Beasley, Juancho Hernangomez, and Omari Spellman. Under head coach Ryan Saunders, the Timberwolves are looking to dominate with five-out spacing and attack with a heavy dose of 3-pointers.

That process has made the team’s offense work wonders so far as the Timberwolves ranked 9th in points per game and 7th in 3-pointers made this season but there’s still more that can be done. With that being said here are three more steps the Timberwolves can make to reach contention with their duo.
