Sacramento Kings: Bad news piles on; Marvin Bagley suffers foot injury
Bad news piles on for the Sacramento Kings
Before the NBA’s hiatus, the Sacramento Kings had the look of a team that was on the verge of making a run towards the playoffs. However, over the last few weeks, you can make the case that the illness/injury bug hasn’t hit a team worse than its hit the Kings.
Over the course of the last few weeks, four of their rotation players have tested positive for COVID-19. When the team entered the bubble, Richaun Holmes left the bubble momentarily and was forced to enter an extra 10-day quarantine to ensure he could safely re-enter the bubble. Once practices began, it was reported that De’Aaron Fox had suffered an ankle injury. The hope is that it’s not serious (he’s expected to miss 7-10 days), but any missed time at this point is not ideal.
Now, the team has announced that Marvin Bagley has suffered a right foot injury during a recent practice and that they are awaiting MRI results to understand the severity of the injury.

The Sacramento Kings before the hiatus
In the 10 games post-all-star break, the Kings were 7-3 (good enough for the fourth-best record in the NBA). Over that span, the Kings posted a top 11 offensive rating, defensive rating, and net rating. This was a team beginning to play at a high level. They were beginning to click as a collective unit.
Perhaps most importantly, the Kings were quickly making up games in the West standings and will now be entering the hiatus 3.5 games out of the eighth seed. All the Kings need to do to ensure a spot in the playoffs play-in tournament is to remain within eight games of the eighth seed.
However, without a full roster that could prove to be difficult. Especially if the Kings are without Fox or Bagley.
It’s tough to predict whether the Kings will even be able to get back to the level of play that they were at before the hiatus, even with a fully healthy roster, but it would be a shame to not even see them get the chance to do it.
Here’s to hoping that the Kings’ fortune will begin to shift in the next couple of weeks in anticipation of gameplay getting underway.
