It’s doesn’t matter where the Philadelphia 76ers play Ben Simmons

Ben Simmons should occupy the high post and have the Philadelphia 76ers best player, Joel Embiid in the paint. Why?

I can already hear the arguments, Embiid can at least shoot outside of the paint, Simmons will not even shoot five feet outside the paint

I understand but get this.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

Embiid operates best in the post, he needs post touches for the 76ers offense to thrive. The 76ers need to put their best player where he is the most comfortable.

Since Simmons is a great passer, the dynamic duo can utilize the traditional high-low offense. Simmons can feed Embiid or Embiid can set a pick for Simmons, and this is better for everyone because Simmons is closer to the basket.

If Embiid has the ball down low, and the double arrives, Simmons can cut to the basket for an easy 2-point basket. Even if Simmons does not get the ball, the threat of him near the basket should create open looks for other teammates.

If Simmons has the ball at the high post, but Simmons’ defender sags off to cover Embiid, then Simmons can take one dribble and get to the rim.

Also, Simmons can make easier passes to shooters such as Tobias Harris, Josh Richardson, and Furkan Korkmaz.

If Simmons’ defender does sag off to take away the low post entry pass and if Simmons is not comfortable shooting, he can do a Draymond Green play.

Simmons can do a dribble hand-off with Harris, and this creates a 2-on-1 situation. Simmons will screen Harris’ man, and since Simmons’ defender sags off, there is no help for Harris’ defender. Harris should get an open look.

As the Philadelphia 76ers prepare to open scrimmage play in the bubble and with all the talk surrounding what position Simmons will play, it’s key to remember what’s actually important here.

It’s not about what position Ben Simmons will play, it’s more about how he’s going to be utilized in the Sixers’ offense.
