11. San Antonio Spurs – Aaron Nesmith, F, Vanderbilt
Short of making a run in the NBA’s restart, the San Antonio Spurs will likely be selecting in the NBA Draft Lottery (with their own pick) for the first time in more than two decades. It’s unlikely that they’ll be able to land the next franchise player with the 11th pick, but they could find a gem amid the messy.
Could that be Aaron Nesmith? On paper, there is plenty to like about his game. During his sophomore season at Vanderbilt, Nesmith 23 points and five rebounds on 51 percent shooting from the field and 52 percent from 3-point range. An injury cut his season short, but there’s no question that Nesmith is one of the most efficient offensive players in the draft.
Will he be able to translate that success to the NBA? That’s the big question. But as a 6-foot-6 forward, there is plenty to like about Nesmith’s game and his potential. He could be the next great find the Spurs outside of the top 10.
