NBA Trade Rumors: Chicago Bulls to trade Thaddeus Young?

Even though the Chicago Bulls were a disappointing team during the 2019-20 NBA season, in the eyes of many, this is still a core that is considered to be one of the most talented in the Eastern Conference.

Led by Zach LaVine and Lauri Markkanen, the Bulls should be on the come up in the East sooner rather than later. Especially with another projected top 10 pick heading into the 2020 NBA Draft. With that said, that could open the door to the team electing to shake up the roster.

One potential name that could be on the trade block, according to a recent report, is veteran big man Thaddeus Young.

With a healthy Lauri Markkanen, Young has somewhat become a luxury for the Bulls. He’s not a starter as long as Markkanen is healthy and playing at a high level. The fact that he’s being paid like one could be the issue or the reason why the Bulls would be open to trade him.

Young is still on the books for two more seasons and $28 million. Objectively speaking, compared to the rest of the landscape of the league, Young is on a pretty affordable deal. Any team looking for a starting-caliber, veteran power forward should give him a look.

The Bulls don’t necessarily need him at this point in their rebuild and could look to add an asset or two before they have to part ways with him. With two years left on his deal, teams also won’t be trading for a rental. This is potentially a player that will play a role for any team that he’s traded to for the immediate future.

At 32 years of age, Young is coming off a season in which he averaged 10 points and five rebounds per game on 45 percent shooting from the field and 36 percent from 3-point range. He may not still be in the prime of his career, but Thaddeus Young is still a player that can be productive at this point in his career.
