NBA bubble tiers; which teams can actually win?

The NBA is back and it feels great to be able to say that. By now everyone knows that the NBA invited 22 teams to the Orlando bubble for a resumption of play after the season was suspended as a precaution against COVID-19.

(Side note – Orlando Bubbles is actually one of the potential names for my future Beach Boys cover band).

But just because these 22 teams were invited doesn’t mean they all have a chance to do much in Orlando. In fact, most teams won’t be there for very long. Amongst the 22 teams, there are definite haves and have nots. And if you look a little closer, there are subsets of teams who are all in the same boat as we start the first few days of games in Orlando.

So let’s get started by taking a look at the group of teams who probably responded to Adam Silver’s phone call letting them know they were invited to the bubble by asking if it was a prank call.
