NBA Mock Draft 7.0: Post-lottery edition; Timberwolves win No. 1 pick

3. Charlotte Hornets – LaMelo Ball, G, Illawarra

Honestly, just last year I never really believed that LaMelo Ball would be a top 3 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. However, he’s grown a ton as a prospect over the last year. Even though Lonzo hasn’t developed into the player many expected him to be, I don’t think we can hold that against LaMelo. Sometimes, that is almost impossible not to do.

There’s a lot to like about LaMelo, though. He has great size, has shown the ability to be a great playmaker, and has a limitless range (even though he hasn’t shown the most consistent of jump shots). What teams will like most about him is his high ceiling potential that he’ll have heading into the NBA.

If he reaches his potential, he’ll be a superstar in the league. At No. 3, Ball is too good of a prospect to pass up for the Hornets. He’d also be considered a steal at this point in the draft.
