Philadelphia 76ers to move on from Brett Brown; more changes likely
Philadelphia 76ers fire Brett Brown
After being swept by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 2020 NBA Playoffs, many expected changes from the Philadelphia 76ers. The first could be here soon. The team is expected to move on from head coach Brett Brown.
Brown has coached seven seasons with the Sixers and helped them reach the playoffs each of the last three years. In the end, the team took too much of a step back this season – after falling one game short of the Eastern Conference Finals last season – for the team to bring him back.
It was probably time for a change considering the way this team played all this season.

What more changes will the Philadelphia 76ers make?
The fact that the Sixers elected to move on from Brown wasn’t surprising. This was a move that many saw coming even during the pre-hiatus regular season, with a fully healthy roster. Philadelphia was massively underperforming this season and generally, the first man that falls on the sword is the tea’ms head coach.
After the team fell down 3-0 to the Celtics, the proof was in the pudding. It was a matter of “when” and not “if” anymore. With that said, this is also just the first of what many expect to be a myriad of changes this offseason for the Sixers.
The question is, what will the next big change be? There are a few possibilities. The clear first is ownership moving on from general manager Elton Brand. Since taking over for Bryan Colangelo in 2018, he’s struggled to build around Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. While you can place most of that blame on the Jimmy Butler experiment not working (and there are many theories why that didn’t work), he did a poor job of replacing Butler and J.J. Redick.
Will he get another offseason? That seems highly unlikely, especially if the team is already beginning to clean house with the Brown move. Aside from that, there could be some roster reconstruction. In fact, you can almost make the case that there has to be.
Philly could look to move Al Horford, who simply hasn’t fit next to Embiid – and you don’t want your $100 million investment coming off the bench. While there have been some waves around the notion that the Sixers need to choose between Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid, I’d be extremely surprised if they did that this offseason.
They should get another year, at least, together to figure it out.
Changes are coming to the Philadelphia 76ers, make no mistake about it. What it really comes down to is whether or not those changes will work this time around.
