The safe pick: LaMelo Ball, G, Illawarra

It may sound a bit funny to hear that LaMelo Ball would be considered the “safe” pick for the Golden State Warriors at No. 2 overall, but if you really think about it, it holds true. Ball is a top 3 talent and a top 2 guard talent in this draft. If the Warriors wanted to add depth to their backcourt, with Anthony Edwards off the board, Ball would be the way to go.

He could play as a super sixth man (assuming he’s ready to contribute from the moment he’s drafted) behind and learn from Stephen Curry early on. Even if he needed to, Curry is a good enough of a shooter where he could play next to Ball. The defense would suffer mightily, but perhaps that’s something having Klay Thompson and Draymond Green would help alleviate.

Plus, if Ball develops into the player that many believe he can be, the Warriors offense would be that much more explosive. The Warriors pride themselves on being light-years ahead, maybe this was all part of the plan?
