NBA set to resume playoff games Saturday after a player-led walkout

Wednesday after, the Milwaukee Bucks took it upon themselves to send a stronger message than any phrase on a back of a jersey or painted on a court could ever do. Led by. the Bucks, the NBA players walked out in the middle of the playoffs.

The Bucks refused to take the court for their scheduled Game 5 against the Orlando Magic Wednesday afternoon, which was followed by the remaining of the NBA’s schedule to get postponed due to other teams following Milwaukee’s lead in the walkout.

Players wanted to refocus on the social injustices that were taking place around the country and had to take a stand in an effort to push owers and executives to bring about tangible solutions and/or plans of action.

In a joint statement, that’s exactly what the players and NBA began to accomplish Friday afternoon. The NBA and NBA Players Association released a joint statement addressing social justice and racial equality, including ways it will work to move forward. The goal for the players and the league is to bring “meaningful and sustainable change.”

One big part of the statement included transforming arena property into safe voting stations during election cycles.

It was also announced that the NBA playoffs will resume Saturday afternoon, likely with the slate of games that were scheduled for Wednesday, the day the walkout began.

Looking back, the last two days will forever live in league history. The walkout, sparked by the Bucks, may have only lasted two days but it did bring about change. It changed the narrative, and will likely just be the beginning of a substantial change in the future.

We may not be able to see the tangible change that it will bring initially, but there’s no question many players are using the power they have to be the voices for those that simply don’t have a platform.

The NBA may be continuing, but the last few days will forever change the league – and, hopefully, the rest of the nation.
