NBA Mock Draft 8.0: LaMelo Ball falls to Hornets; Bulls make a splash at No. 4
25. Oklahoma City Thunder – Tre Jones, G, Duke
With the uncertainty facing Chris Paul this offseason (who could be traded), I wouldn’t be surprised if the Oklahoma City Thunder tried to find some depth in the backcourt in preparation for that potential. Tre Jones is a potential target.
Even though he’s considered undersized at 6-foot-3 and just 185 pounds, he’s a proven winner in college and is a gamer. He performs best under the bright lights and could be a pleasant late-first round surprise.
26. Boston Celtics – Jalen Smith, C, Maryland
There’s a good chance that the Boston Celtics will be looking for more frontcourt depth during the offseason. Adding another potential answer for the position with the 26th pick could work. Jalen Smith is an interesting prospect that could fit into Boston’s plans.
Smith is coming off an impressive sophomore season at Maryland in which he averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds per game on 37 percent shooting from 3-point range. If his shooting is sustainable, there’s no question he could carve out a role on an NBA roster.
