With the fourth overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, the Chicago Bulls are in a position to draft a future star of the franchise. Yes, it might be a weak draft, but there is still a handful of players capable of changing the fortunes of a franchise.
One such player is LaMelo Ball. Gifted with the incredible length for a point guard at 6-foot-7, Ball like his older brother Lonzo has a gift for passing the ball and is a much better shooter than Lonzo, defensively he is a turnstile but let’s not go there.
The Bulls are rebuilding; plain and simple. They have removed the front office staff that stagnated the team for nearly a decade, they fired Jim Boylen one of the worst head coaches in the league, and are now in the search for a new coach.
They need a fresh start and to allow for the front office to make changes in how they see fit. One of the main things the current Bulls lack is veterans.
Zach LaVine, Otto Porter Jr, Coby White, Lauri Markkanen, Wendell Carter Jr, Denzel Valentine, and Kris Dunn are a significant portion of the team, and none of them which you would describe as a veteran player. Adding some vets to the team who have been through battles would be helpful for the Bulls development long term.
Adding Spencer Dinwiddie (27) and DeAndre Jordan (32) alongside current Bulls forward Thad Young (32) gives the Bulls a nice group of veterans the younger players can gravitate and learn from.
If the Bulls wanted to, they could use the picks from the Nets along with their pick to trade up potentially to No. 1 and get Anthony Edwards or stay where they are and LaMelo Ball falls to them. Either way, they will have a salary controlled group of young players for years to come.
For the Nets, they get one of the most exciting shooting guards in the NBA. Calling Zach LaVine simply a high flyer is an insult to his game. Sure he can throw down 360 windmill dunks mid-game and yes he can posterize pretty much every player in the league but if you think that Zach LaVine is simply a dunker, you are very much mistaken.
LaVine is the ideal combo guard in the modern NBA. He can get scorching hot from the 3-point line, he can facilitate and get others involved at a healthy rate and he isn’t afraid of taking the big shots. With Kyrie’s flashy handles and passes, KD’s 3-tier scoring ability, and LaVine’s Dunking and shooting, the Barclay Center will be on fire.
Adding LaVine to KD and Kyrie would further cement Brooklyn as the glitzy and glamour basketball franchise of New York.
