NBA Mock Draft 9.0: LaMelo Ball falls out of the top 3; Knicks snag Obi Toppin
21. Philadelphia 76ers – Cassius Winston, G, Michigan State
Selection and commentary: John Butler
The Philadelphia 76ers aren’t in a position to land their next superstar, but they do need someone who can contribute on offense right away. In my opinion, there isn’t a player available on the draft board who has a better shot at coming into the league and making an immediate impact on this squad than Cassius Winston.
The senior guard out of Michigan State fulfills the need for scoring. His strong performance last year was no fluke, as he averaged 18 points per game for the last two seasons. His perimeter shooting abilities will help a 76ers squad that struggled to find consistent scoring beyond the arch last season. Winston shot 43.2 percent from the 3-point line last year.
The concern may be that the 76ers already have a ton of guards on the roster. Adding Winston into the fold would provide an opportunity for Philadelphia to package guys like Shake Milton and Josh Richardson in a deal for talent that complements the tandem of Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons.
