NBA Mock Draft 9.0: LaMelo Ball falls out of the top 3; Knicks snag Obi Toppin
27. New York Knicks – Malachi Flynn, G, San Diego State
Selection and commentary: Paul Lombardi
After being able to snag Toppin with the No. 8 overall pick, the main goal at No. 27 for the New York Knicks turned into getting a point guard late in the first round, which the team lacks desperately.
Nico Mannion was taken at No. 24 by Milwaukee so my backup was the San Diego State star, Malachi Flynn. Helping lead the Aztecs to a dominant year, Flynn showed extreme versatility running the point, both facilitating the offense as a playmaker and scorer.
As the type of floor general the Knicks need to add to the backcourt with RJ Barrett, I preferred Flynn over Devon Dotson or Tre Jones. The Knicks may still try to trade for a point guard in the trade market, but it would be wise for New York to take a shot at one at some point in the first round.
