7. Detroit Pistons – Tyrese Haliburton, G, Iowa State
As the Detroit Pistons head into somewhat of a rebuild this offseason, this is a team that would ideally like to find a potential franchise player with the 7th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. However, in such a “weak” draft class, that could prove to be difficult – or even downright impossible. With that said, with the way the draft board has fallen, adding a potential dynamic two-way like Tyrese Haliburton has to be considered a no-brainer.
Haliburton might not have game tape that jumps off the screen, but he was a productive player at Iowa State and is entering this draft as one of the most consistent guards too. Haliburton has great size for a guard (6-foot-5) and is coming off a sophomore season in which he averaged 15 points, seven assists, and six rebounds per game on 50 percent shooting from the field and 42 percent shooting from 3-point range.
Not many expect Haliburton to be a “star” at the NBA level, but there’s no question that he has the capability to be a really good starter. Could he defy the experts and become a “star” or “franchise player,” absolutely. But that type of expectation shouldn’t be placed on him at No. 7.
