Philadelphia 76ers: Would hiring Mike D’Antoni be a bad misstep?
The Philadelphia 76ers should avoid Mike D’Antoni
After being eliminated from the playoffs in the first round by the Boston Celtics, the Philadelphia 76ers decided to part ways with their seven-year head coach Brett Brown.
In the team’s defense, besides the conference finals run last year (2018-19), the Brett Brown era was pretty disappointing. Besides picking three straight No. 1 overall picks and having others littered throughout the lottery, having stars like Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid, and adding Jimmy Butler, Tobias Harris, and Al Horford, the Sixers never really made a dent in the Eastern Conference.
But, look Philly fans. If you think the Brett Brown era was a mistake, I guarantee that you won’t like the reported next one.

After the Rockets were eliminated from the playoffs, coach Mike D’ Antoni informed the team that he was not going to return the following season. Surprisingly, he already is a “strong candidate” for the Sixers.
Why? Elton Brand, why would you even consider him as the top choice why is Joel Embiid offering his “blessing” for the hire?
D’Antoni praises pacing, spacing, and 3’s, and none of that is in Philly. OK, so Ben Simmons can go coast-to-coast himself sure, but some soft tissue injury will nag him to the sideline again rendering him useless.
And yeah, Joel Embiid might dominate in all that open space, but that’s also when he’s not tired and realizes that he does care about basketball which no one can predict when that happens. Now, when it does happen Tobias Harris and Al Horford would just find a way to pack the paint anyway.
Look, what I’m trying to say is sure, there will be benefits because his system is that effective. Just with the right pieces. And let’s face it, besides injury luck, Ben Simmons can’t shoot to save his life, and Joel Embiid’s well… Joel Embiid. D’Antoni is not the right guy for this team. Please, find someone else, Philly.
Doc Rivers, who recently parted ways with the LA Clippers, anybody?
