3 potential next steps for Doc Rivers as a head coach
After a disappointing playoff exit for the LA Clippers, especially after an offseason in which they added Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, it was almost a certainty that the team was going to make some changes heading into the offseason.
Even though it was clear that the Clippers under-performed – losing in the Western Conference Semifinals was not how anyone projected LA’s season to end – I can’t imagine that many, if any, thought it was Doc Rivers that was going to fall on the sword for the franchise.
However, that’s exactly what transpired after it was reported that the Clippers and Rivers, the team’s coach of seven years, were parting ways. The two parties tried to control the narrative and suggest that it was a mutual decision and just a “difference of philosophy” that got in the way, but it’s natural to have doubts.
Nevertheless, the bottom line is that the Clippers are now officially looking for a new coach and that Doc Rivers is looking for a new team. Assuming that Rivers wants to coach in 2020-21, we explore three potential landing spots for the championship head coach.
