Philadelphia 76ers
Even though Mike D’Antoni is considered to be the favorite to land the Philadelphia 76ers‘ head coaching job, and even more so considering Billy Donovan was hired by the Chicago Bulls recently, there’s still a chance that the Sixers could entertain the thought of interviewing or even offering (if it gets to that point) Doc Rivers the job.
On one hand, you could make the argument that D’Antoni isn’t the best fit for the Sixers. He may very well be the best coach available but Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid don’t exactly scream “D’Antoni players.” Could he evolve and utilize Simmons and Embiid in a successful manner? Absolutely.
At the same rate, could the Sixers’ management come to the conclusion that perhaps Rivers could be a better fit both schematically and on a coach-to-player level? Absolutely. Rivers is a good coach. I don’t think you can win an NBA Championship without being one.
Perhaps a fresh start will do him good. Plus, the cushion of the Sixers’ talent could be a great landing spot, and perhaps even bring some rejuvenation to his coaching tactics.
