11. San Antonio Spurs – Saddiq Bey, F, Villanova
Heading into a transitional offseason, I’m not sure the San Antonio Spurs are sitting in a place (picking at No. 11) where they’ll be able to draft the new face of the franchise or a prospect that will emerge as a difference-maker from day one. However, they will be able to add a really good player.
Saddiq Bey could emerge as their perfect target. In an era where we’re seeing the rise of the 3-and-D wings and their importance at an all-time high, Bey makes a lot of sense for a team late in the lottery. Bey is coming off a season in which 16 points per game on 45 percent shooting from 3-point range.
At 6-foot-8, there’s a chance that Bey will be able to play multiple positions in the NBA and will be a weapon at the disposal of Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich. Could Bey emerge as a star in Pop’s system? Who knows. But I wouldn’t bet against Pop and the Spurs.
