3 reasons why the Miami Heat should target Victor Oladipo in a trade

After an impressive run in the NBA’s restart bubble, which got them all the way to the 2020 NBA Finals, the Miami Heat is certainly one of the hottest franchises in the league heading into the offseason.

Many expect this team to be a hot destination during the summer of 2021, in which among other top players Giannis Antetokounmpo will be a free agent, but this is a team that will want to make a run at the NBA Finals before that offseason. Looking at their roster, salary, and cap space heading into the 2020 offseason, it’s difficult to see how this team tangibly improves the roster without a big trade.

Short of Giannis asking for a trade a year before he can hit free agency, and one to the Heat, it’s unlikely for Miami to land a big name in the trade market. One potential fit, and arguably Miami’s most realistic “big” move heading into this offseason, remains Victor Oladipo.

There have already been whispers (subscription required) that Oladipo might want out of Indiana and he’s already been linked to the Heat. Oladipo could be the next step that is not only plausible but also one that makes a lot of sense all-around for the team.

Let’s get to what a potential trade could look like, and then three reasons why it’s a move that makes the most sense for the Miami Heat heading into the offseason.
