The LA Clippers should hire Jeff Van Gundy as their next head coach

As the 2020 NBA season comes to an end, the league has crowned a new champion in the Los Angeles Lakers, but for some reason, we just can’t seem to stop talking about little brother living in the basement of Staples Center, those loveable, often overhyped second round of the playoffs losing, LA Clippers.

Roughly a month ago, the Clippers were eliminated by the Denver Nuggets, and it’s been almost three weeks now since team owner Steve Ballmer and Doc Rivers decided to “mutually” part ways after seven years.

Although the Clippers have not yet announced the hiring of a new head coach, never fear Lob City, your savior may be closer than you think.

The two leading candidates for the Clippers opening are Tyronn Lue, who has most recently been an assistant under Doc Rivers in LA, and former Houston Rockets and New York Knicks head coach Jeff Van Gundy, who is currently the color commentator for ESPN and ABC’s nationally televised NBA games, including the NBA Finals.

Now, the truly interesting part of this whole equation is that both Lue and Van Gundy are said to be favorites for the Houston Rockets head coaching gig, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst as he reported on ‘The Jump’ on Tuesday.

Van Gundy is scheduled to officially interview with the Rockets on Wednesday, and Lue has already done so with the Rockets earlier in the week. Don’t be shocked to hear news out of either Houston, LA, or both by weeks end in regard to which direction they will go in their coaching searches.

Both candidates have tons to bring to the table for any team currently looking to fill a head coaching vacancy.

dark. Next. Winners and losers from the 2020 NBA Finals

This Clippers team just feels like the right fit for coach Van Gundy if he is indeed going to leave the booth, and he could potentially take this team and mold them into what they were supposed to be in 2020, but fell far short of.
