The winners and losers of the 2020 NBA Finals

We all could’ve done with a closer final game after the Game 5 we were treated to but nevertheless, the Los Angeles Lakers won the 2020 NBA Championship in a blowout win. A final score of 106-93 doesn’t do justice to how hot the Lakers were as they rushed to the second-largest halftime deficit in NBA Finals history, with a 28-point lead.

Goran Dragic played through a plantar fascia injury he sustained in Game 1 but he wasn’t able to make a legitimate impact in limited minutes, Jimmy Butler couldn’t follow-up his 47-minute-plus outing the game before and the game was out of grasp.

But without further ado, let’s get into the winners and losers of the 2020 NBA Finals.

Winner: LeBron James

If LeBron James isn’t the greatest player of all-time in your mind yet, then he’s at least at the stage where his candidacy can’t be ignored. Winning his fourth title and Finals MVP in 10 trips to the Finals in what is his age-36 season is pretty incredible.

He is second all-time in playoff triple-doubles and has as many in the Finals (11) as the player who’s third on that total playoff list (Jason Kidd). He closed out Game 6 with a casual 28 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists with only one turnover and 13-20 shooting from the floor.

While it helps to play alongside Anthony Davis on defense, he was the primary defender on Jimmy Butler in Game 6 and it’s well-advertised that nobody on Miami really ever got comfortable.
