NBA Draft rumors: Wolves, Warriors could both look to trade down

The 2020 NBA Draft is roughly a month away and there still isn’t much anyone can feel certain about at this point in the process. There’s no consensus No. 1 overall pick and there’s no guessing what the Minnesota Timberwolves or Golden State Warriors will do with the first two picks in the draft.

With that said, there isn’t a fair share of speculation. The Wolves have already been linked to potentially pick LaMelo Ball, Anthony Edwards, or even moving down in the draft. In fact, that’s exactly what Minnesota should be doing at this point in the process – their due diligence.

However, could it be possible that both the top picks in the 2020 NBA Draft are traded?

More from Sir Charles In Charge

According to ESPN (ESPN+ subscription required), that could very well be the case. This report indicates that both the Wolves and Warriors could look to trade down. Should both teams move out of the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively, it would be one of the most unprecedented moves in NBA Draft history.

Not to say that it will certainly happen, but at the very least it’s something to keep an eye on as we inch closer and closer to November 18.

And it makes sense for both teams, likely more so for the Warriors than the Timberwolves. Golden State has a ready-to-win roster and wouldn’t likely be helped all that much by a rookie that may or may not be ready to perform on the NBA’s biggest stage.

It would make sense for the Warriors to swap the No. 2 overall pick for a player that is more ready to contribute to a championship-contending team. Whether the Warriors could find that player on the trade market remains to be seen, but it’s absolutely something that should be explored ahead of the NBA Draft.

Minnesota, with D’Angelo Russell and Karl-Anthony Towns, appears ready to make the jump from a lottery team to a playoff contender in the Western Conference. Though, who’s to say that an Anthony Edwards or LaMelo Ball will be the piece that carries them over the top in that manner?

The next few weeks will be huge in regards to the 2020 NBA Draft and what we could/should expect. There’s still a strong chance that we enter the NBA Draft with no real indication of what exactly will transpire, but there’s no question that we’re going to know less than what we know now.

Buckle up, NBA Draft season is here and there will be smokescreens. The fact that we could see two big trades to start the NBA Draft is an exciting possibility. Enjoy the unprecedented process.
