With a new regime in power, there are no more excuses for the Philadelphia 76ers

You have your coach (Doc Rivers), a very talented front office member (Daryl Morey) manning the ship, and two stars entering the prime of their careers in Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. But the question remains the same for you, Philadelphia 76ers. Now what?

Some are believing it’s time for the newly appointed president of basketball operations Daryl Morey to put his fingerprints on the franchise. But that might be a little easier said than done. The 76ers are in the midst of huge salary cap problems being tied to the likes of 2019 trade-deadline acquisition Tobias Harris‘ new contract extension, Al Horford‘s free-agent signing this past offseason, and having both of their young stars locked up on long term extensions.

Now, Morey has pulled off some of the craziest trades our generation has ever seen like stealing Harden and finding pairings with Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook, so if anyone can do something it’s him. Even with a lack of space and assets to maneuver with like in Philly, so stay tuned because moves will be made.

Now, once the team is set, the questions will then lie on Doc and his ability to use it? Will this be a disaster in the making as the awkward pairing of Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid continue to have more success individually rather than as a tandem? Or will Doc finally unleash untapped potential?

He’s coached superstars in their prime in Paul Pierce and Kawhi Leonard, so the spotlight won’t be the issue. He’s coached intense competitors in Kevin Garnett, Rajon Rondo, and Patrick Beverly, so egos will be in check. And he’s unlocked potential never before seen when he coached DeAndre Jordan into a perennial defensive player of the year candidate, so Joel Embiid will be pushed for effort. But he’s never had a challenge like this.

For starters, this is Philly. The fans deserve winning, and they won’t settle for anything less. And with Ben Simmons whose been seen as a bigger Magic Johnson with better defensive potential and Joel Embiid regarded as the most dominant center since Shaq on his focused nights, you can argue Doc has never coached talent like this. EVER! And with a trigger happy man at the helm in Darryl Morey, who’s to say even more talent isn’t on the way.

Look, you’re almost there, but we’ve been saying this for years, Philly. The difference now though is Daryl Morey and Doc Rivers track records. But, even those are gathering questions these days. Now, answer them.
