3 reasons the Toronto Raptors need to re-sign Fred VanVleet
The Toronto Raptors have a major decision to make regarding the future of their backcourt with Fred VanVleet‘s pending free agency. His presence definitely makes the Raptors bonafide title contenders and he is a valuable player they really can’t afford to lose.
The 26-year-old guard is just now entering the prime of his career and is coming off his best season posting career highs with 17.6 points, 3.8 rebounds to go along with 6.6 assists a game. VanVleet has definitely earned his place in the NBA as an undrafted free agent. He was a member of the Raptors G League affiliate who won the G League title in 2017 and since then VanVleet hasn’t looked back as his career has transcended.
In 2019, the Raptors captured their first NBA championship in franchise history largely due to the clutch performance of VanVleet as he averaged 14 points off the bench while shooting 40 percent from downtown in the series. He even garnered consideration for the Finals MVP because he was just that good.
It wasn’t the number of points he scored but when he scored them that made the difference. He isn’t quite a household name or as well known as some of the other star guards in the league but that could all change soon as VanVleet is in line for a huge payday.
There are numerous reasons why the Toronto Raptors should do every in their power to ensure Fred VanVleet is in their lineup at the start of next season.
