4 potential landing spots for Gordon Hayward should he want to depart from the Boston Celtics

You could make the argument that Gordon Hayward‘s time with the Boston Celtics has been somewhat of a disappointment. Just a couple of offseasons ago, Hayward was expected to be a lead man on a max deal. However, almost immediately after taking the floor during his first game with the Celtics, he suffered a gruesome leg injury that forced him to miss the entire season.

He hasn’t been the same since that injury.

Even when he returned, he didn’t look like anything of his former self. While that could be chalked up to injury, many times in sports fans don’t see that side of the spectrum. Thus, the reasoning for the fact that he’s considered a disappointment with the team.

With that said, there’s no question that at this point in his career Hayward might benefit from a change of scenery. In fact, there are already whispers that he may want out. Even though the Celtics are a team that many consider being a contender in the Eastern Conference, this is a team that is building away from Hayward. Thanks in large part to the emergence of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, and the signing of Kemba Walker.

Even if he would opt-in to the final year of his contract for 2020-21, it would be highly surprising for him to re-sign with the team next summer. Heading into the offseason, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him want to start a new phase of his career now.

If he indeed does decide to go down that road, we explore four teams that could emerge as a potential landing spot for Gordon Hayward’s services.
