Detroit Pistons could emerge as a candidate to trade up for LaMelo Ball

With the 2020 NBA Draft less than two weeks away, the smoke and mirrors game of the league is going to ramp up in the next few days leading into the November 18 event. That means we are going to hear reports and whispers of teams that are interested in certain prospects, interested in trading up or down, or flat out players that have been given promises by specific teams.

The big question, of course, especially during this part of the offseason, revolves around which reports are substantial and which are just smoke and mirrors. Many suggest where there’s smoke there’s fire, but when it comes to the NBA that’s not always the case.

Some teams allow specific reports to be released for the sake of either helping their own stance or just simply throw a wrench in the entire draft process. Our guard should be up even more so this year considering were entering a draft season unlike any other.

Interestingly enough, there is a recent report that could quite possibly change the entire draft. According to a report from ESPN, the Detroit Pistons are one team that has been discussed as a candidate to potentially trade up in an attempt to target LaMelo Ball.

Many consider Ball to be one of the top three prospects in this NBA draft class and even some believe he should be the unanimous No. 1 overall pick. Even though he’s reportedly been dropping down some draft boards among teams picking in the top 10, there’s no question that Ball is still going to be one of the most sought after prospects in this draft. And it only takes one team to be in love with him.

For a team like the Detroit Pistons, trading up for a prospect like a Ball makes a ton of sense. Especially if he falls, let’s see, out of the top three. The Pistons are currently picking No. 7 and it wouldn’t take all that much to jump to let’s say pick No. 4.

Depending on what, in this case, the Chicago Bulls would be asking for there’s no question that the Pistons could make something work. Especially if they’re expecting to get a potential franchise player in return.

As LaMelo Ball‘s stock reportedly continues to fall, there’s at least one team that hasn’t wavered on his potential. If these reports are indeed true and the Ball is falling down the draft board, the Detroit Pistons shouldn’t hesitate to jump up and take him.
